Diffusive phason instability
http://hopf.chem.brandeis.edu/pubs/pub295%20rep.pdf WebThe structural instability driven by soft phason modes in icosahedral quasicrystals is studied. Hydrodynamical instability due to slowing down of relaxation of the phason fields is discussed in comparison with thermodynamical instability, which leads to a spontaneous onset of the uniform phason strains.

WebQuenched-in phason mode gives rise to a characteristic diffuse scattering, observed in all the ‘stable’ icosahedral quasicrystals studied so far. In the AlPdMn icosahedral phase, … WebDisease diffusion occurs when a disease is transmitted to a new location. It implies that a disease spreads, or pours out, from a central source. The idea of showing the spread of …

WebMar 10, 2016 · We investigate two-variable reaction-diffusion systems of the hyperbolic type. A linear stability analysis is performed, and the conditions for diffusion-driven instabilities are derived. Two basic types of eigenvalues, real and complex, are described. Dispersion curves for both types of eigenvalues are plotted and their behavior is analyzed. The real … Webphasons are diffusive modes associated with discrete atomic rearrangements in physical space. In a simplified picture, a phason can be seen as a damped sine-wave fluctuation with wavevector q along E // and polarisation vector e⊥(q) along E⊥. Neglecting phonon-phason interactions, 3 phason eigenmodes (k = 1, 2, 3) can be defined for a given ...
